- Fishing
Fishing is done from our custom build boats fitted with GPS-trolling motors and state-of-the-art chart plotters. Fish around structures beneath the surface – in and around dry, dead trees and logs, against rocky banks and cliff faces, and over rocky pinnacles and outcrops that protrude from the water.
The prime time for fishing at Massingir is between August and March, when the females start moving upriver to spawn and during the rainy season when the dam and rivers are full and incredibly active. The river inflows during this time are a sight to behold, with muddy water colliding with the clean water of the dam, creating an otherworldly fishing experience.
Slow-rolling big lures and flies on the bottom between the deeper tree lines generally produce the bigger fish. However, during spawning season, the fish make their way to shallow waters and river inlets, allowing anglers to catch a true Massingir giant in the shallow water. It’s a thrilling experience to witness the power and strength of these magnificent creatures up close.
