After the recent floods that had swept through the region, the team at Uncharted Fishing was eager to check the fishability of the Vaal River. Despite knowing that the conditions might not be ideal and that the cold would test our resolve, we decided to venture forth. To play it safe, we opted for a familiar stretch of water where we had previously cast our lines.
Upon arriving at the Vaal River, it quickly became apparent that the landscape had undergone significant transformations. The riverbanks, once familiar, had shifted, and the presence of new obstacles in the form of trees and boulders promised to make our excursion a challenging one. Nevertheless, our enthusiasm remained undiminished.
Our initial foray into the river proved to be quite demanding. We spent the first day navigating the waterways, attempting to pinpoint the most promising fishing spots. Once we had a better grasp of the river’s altered terrain, the game was afoot. On the following day, everything seemed to fall into place seamlessly. From the moment we launched our boats to the choices of channels we explored and the precision of our casts, it all began to flow naturally.
Our efforts were soon rewarded with the satisfying tug of a sizeable 8-pound Largemouth Yellowfish. As the day progressed, our confidence grew, and caught a few more Largies.
In conclusion, we can confidently assert that the Vaal River is steadily returning to its fishable state, even on a weekly basis.
